KHORFAKKAN: Khorfakkan, which is renowned as the Bride of the East Coast, recently hosted the fourth edition of Khorfakkan Theatrical Festival, organised by the Department of Theatre, Sharjah Culture and Information Department.

The opening of the festival, which took place on Friday at the corniche, was attended by Sheikh Said Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Vice President of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah’s office in Khorfakkan, Ahmad Burahima, Director of the Department of Theatre, and members of the Municipal Council of Khorfakkan.

The festival’s varied plays, shows and fun activities entertained hundreds of residents. The festival kicked off with a huge parade on corniche street, where several local and regional theatre stars and actors joined the colourful cars’ procession.

The six plays staged for the audience included: “My School” introduced by school theatre, “The Question of Million”, introduced by the scout theatre, a short play, “Book Adventure” introduced by the kid theatre, the stars theatre, and the public theatre.

During the plays, folklore shows were also held for the audience. These were showcasing various cultures and heritage, which included the UAE, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Ethiopia, Africa, and India. Furthermore, various competitions were held for the public. They included the contests for the most beautiful mask, the most beautiful car, and the bride of the festival.

Opposite the corniche, a 100m mural was drawn by various Emirati artists, who had been drawing it two weeks ahead of the festival’s commencement. The mural included gorgeous graphics of different characters and some shows of the festival.

The theatre department, which often holds several festivals, is currently making preparations for the Arabian Gulf Theatre Festival in February and Sharjah Theatrical Days in March.
