Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial
Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial was launched in 2004 to introduce the Art of Arabic Calligraphy theoretically and practically, with all its divisions, schools, and conventions.
The Biennial invites renowned calligraphers and practitioners from around the world to showcase their art and projects to help in enhancing the development of Arabic Calligraphy Art. The Biennial is also a platform for the artists to experience technical, aesthetic and intellectual advancement. It also encourages exploration and research to deepen the history of the Arabic Calligraphy.
The duration of the Biennial varies from a month to two months with eventful days of workshops, seminars, performances, and ceremonies awarding the calligraphers and artists.
Elevation
Elevation is the rise into an open space and field; it's the construction and the composition that thrives upward. Moreover, elevation is the rise in both reality and imagination, and no better way to discover the hidden gems within the ultimate beauty, than through the raging imagination, which rises into enchanting visual worlds.
Elevation is the descriptive element that is identified by its distinguished significance, and sublime meanings. For example, Arabic calligraphy occupies a distinguish place and status due to its uniqueness and creative personality, and every creative artwork participating in the Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial and representing a unique aesthetic vision; is in fact a sign of elevation.
Every art work that is based on creative foundations will gradually rise and elevate, and artists would devote great efforts and work in order to achieve this process of fascinating elevation through their presentations, whereas even, gazing at the artworks would allow the viewers the divine opportunity to elevate both spiritually and visually.
Therefore, elevation is the process of rising and sublimity that is related to all scientific, cultural and artistic fields. Whereas humanity and according to their hard work and persistent diligence would ascend to higher stages ever, likewise the artist, as through the continuous, passionate practice and acquaintance, the artist tend to rise to more wider spaces and higher and superior levels.
Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial is looking forward to showcase highly efficient artworks, in which incorporate the aspect of elevation in both the concept of the art work and its standard, through highly focusing on achieving the supreme ideas, besides the higher levels of concepts and accomplishments. Whereas artists elevate by their artwork through the good selection of texts and the mastery of writing them according to the accepted rules, in addition the way of presenting them in the best way ever, by integrating the elements of beautifications as well as the decorative and artistic enhancements.
