HH Dr. Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has attended the opening of the 16th Sharjah Arabic Poetry Festival.

Organised by the Department of Culture and Information with the participation of 30 poets from 17 Arab countries, the festival runs until January 12, according to UAE News Agency (WAM)

Poets recited poems at the event in which they highlighted Sharjah's efforts in supporting Arabic literature in various fields and the influence 'poetry houses' have had in various Arab cities.

Poets also deeply thanked the Ruler of Sharjah for his support of poetry and poets in the Arab World, as well as his keenness to honour significant contributors to Arabic language, literature and poetry, WAM reported.
