The Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial Starts in October

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, the eleventh edition of the Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial will start in October. The event, organized by the Cultural Affairs Department at the Sharjah Department of Culture, will run for two months, featuring local, Arab, and international participants. The preparatory committee chose the theme "Numerals" for this edition during a meeting at the department, led by Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Qaseer, Director of the Cultural Affairs Department and the Biennial's Director. The selected theme symbolizes a new chapter for the Biennial, aligning with the directive of His Highness to emphasize Sharjah's pioneering role in fostering Arabic calligraphy as an authentic art form. The theme "Numerals" carries broad artistic connotations, providing calligraphers with a significant perspective for creative achievements, reflecting the multi-faceted meanings contributing to the enhancement of calligraphic aesthetics. The theme underscores the unique creative personality inherent in calligraphic works, elevating them to a distinct artistic status. Numerals, as symbols used in writing such as commas, semicolons, periods, question marks, and exclamation marks, facilitate the reading process by organizing words and sentences. They play a crucial role in completing the form and fully clarifying the meaning of the text, contributing to the foundational aspects of the writing process and adding an aesthetic value to the text's appearance.
