Ruler of Sharjah Attends the Opening of the 22nd Sharjah Arabic Poetry Festival
His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, witnessed on Monday evening the opening of the 22nd edition of the Sharjah Arabic Poetry Festival, held over seven days with the participation of more than 80 poets, critics, and media professionals, at the Cultural Palace.
His Highness and the audience viewed a recorded presentation titled “Years of Poetry,” highlighting His Highness’s efforts and initiative in establishing Houses of Poetry across the Arab world, which marked their 10th anniversary, and their role in preserving the Arabic poetic movement by serving as cultural beacons for the Arabic language and centers for creativity and exchange among poets and critics.
His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah honored poet Dr. Ahmed Balboula, winner of the Sharjah Prize for Arabic Poetry, as well as the winners of the Sharjah Prize for Poetry Criticism: Mahrez bin Mohsen Rashedi from Tunisia (first place), Al-Mahdi Al-Araj from Morocco (second place), and Al-Hassan Mohammed Mahmoud from Mauritania (third place).
His Highness and the audience also listened to poetry readings by Najat Al Dhaheri from the UAE, Dr. Ahmed Balboula from the Arab Republic of Egypt, and Hazbar Mahmoud from the Republic of Iraq.
