Sharjah Department of Culture Continues Its Leading Role in Advancing Culture Locally and in the Arab World

Under the generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, the Sharjah Department of Culture continues its pioneering role in cultural and intellectual development through its 2025 cultural program. This was stated by His Excellency Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Department of Culture in Sharjah, who added that His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah has made the emirate a focal point and a significant destination for knowledge and culture, through a cultural movement shaped by His Highness and implemented through the department's programs and events.

His Excellency Al Owais added that on April 9, 2025, the Sharjah Cultural Honoring Forum will continue its Arab tour in its 21st edition, which will be held in the Arab Republic of Egypt. The forum aims to honor Arab figures who have contributed to serving Arab culture. Also, in the same month, on April 14–15, the 28th edition of the Sharjah Award for Arab Creativity (First Edition) will take place. The award stands out as one of the most important literary prizes in the Arab world and a unique platform for discovering young literary talents.

In May, the Tetouan Moroccan Poets Festival will launch its sixth edition from May 9 to 11, 2025, followed by the 12th edition of the Sharjah School Theatre Festival from May 12 to 15, which celebrates young theatre artists in Sharjah’s schools through workshops, lectures, and performances. The 8th Dibba Al-Hisn Bilateral Theatre Festival will take place from May 23 to 27. Meanwhile, on May 28, 2025, the Jordanian capital, Amman, will host the 22nd edition of the Sharjah Cultural Honoring Forum.

Additionally, the launch of the Sharjah Award for Arab Poetry Criticism and the 16th edition of the Sharjah Award for Artistic Criticism Research will take place under the theme: "Inspiration from Arab Heritage in Contemporary Arab Visual Art". The latter award is the only one of its kind in the Arab world focusing specifically on artistic criticism, addressing vital artistic topics by Arab writers, critics, and academics.

The Sharjah Department of Culture also continues its cultural programs by organizing poetry evenings and seminars at the House of Poetry, the Al Heera  Literary Council, the Khorfakkan Literary Council, and the Kalba Literary Council, in addition to ongoing art workshops at the Arabic Calligraphy Center in the Calligraphy Square.
