Through its traveling beacon of recognition across the world, Sharjah illuminated the French capital, Paris, during the ceremony honoring the winners of the 21st edition of the Sharjah–UNESCO Arab Culture Award, organized by the Sharjah Department of Culture in cooperation with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
This year's edition honored Moroccan cultural entrepreneur and producer Ibrahim Al Mazned and the Dhow Countries Music Academy from the United Republic of Tanzania.
The ceremony, held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, was attended by Dr. Khaled El Enany, Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO); Sheikh Salem bin Khalid Al Qasimi, UAE Minister of Culture; Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Culture; Mohammed Ibrahim Al Qaseer, Director of the Directorate of Cultural Affairs at the Sharjah Department of Culture; Ali Al Haj Al Ali, Permanent Delegate of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO); Mubarak Al Nakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture; and a large number of intellectuals, artists, ambassadors, and diplomats accredited to the international organization.
