South Sudan Arab Poetry Forum Strengthens the Presence of the Arabic Language in Africa

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the Directorate of Cultural Affairs at the Sharjah Department of Culture, in cooperation with the Union of Muslim Scholars of South Sudan, organised the fifth edition of the South Sudan Arab Poetry Forum under the theme, “Sharjah’s Seeds Bear the Fruits of Poetry and Authenticity in Africa.”

Held in the capital, Juba, the forum brought together 15 male and female poets and was attended by a number of officials, intellectuals, academics, and enthusiasts of the Arabic language, poetry, and literature.

The forum is part of a series of Arab Poetry Forums held across the African continent, within the framework of Sharjah’s cultural efforts to strengthen the presence of the Arabic language, encourage poets and literary talents, and create opportunities for interaction between creative voices in Africa and the Arab world. These efforts contribute to supporting the cultural and literary movement and reinforcing the role of Arab poetry as a platform for communication and greater understanding among peoples and cultures.

The forum was attended by Her Excellency Sarah Nyanath, Minister of Culture, Heritage and National Museums of the Republic of South Sudan; members of the Shura Council of the Islamic Council; members of the General Secretariat of the National Islamic Council; Dr. Mohammed Gai, President of the Union of Muslim Scholars of South Sudan and General Coordinator of the forum; as well as a number of university professors, intellectuals, and writers.
