Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mphammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, the Egyptian city of Luxor celebrated the launch of the ninth edition of the Luxor Arab Poetry Festival, organized by the House of Poetry in Luxor in collaboration with the Department of Culture in Sharjah and the Egyptian Ministry of Culture. The festival, which lasts for four days, is being attended by more than 70 creative artists, including poets and artists from Egypt and the Arab world.
The opening ceremony was held at the Luxor Conference Center Theater, with the presence of His Excellency Abdallah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Department of Culture in Sharjah, Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Qaseer, Director of Cultural Affairs at the Department, Dr. Osama Talaat, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Culture, Head of the National Library and Archives, representing Minister of Culture Dr. Ahmed Fouad Henu, Dr. Hisham Abu Zaid, Deputy Governor of Luxor, Dr. Safwat Al-Garhy, Director of the Education Ministry in Luxor, Dr. Hamdi Satoohi, Head of the Cultural Development Fund in Egypt, Dr. Salah Rashwan, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, along with other local officials, members of Al-Azhar, deans of colleges, academics, students, and a large audience.
At the beginning, the Director of the House of Poetry in Luxor, Hussein Al-Qabahi, welcomed the attendees and said, "After nine years in the journey of the House of Poetry, which His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah granted us as a great honor, we have presented a shining group of creators from Egypt, especially its youth. The House has added a large number of creative talents to the cultural scene, many of whom have become prominent names in various Egyptian and Arab cultural events."
He added, "The House has succeeded in building bridges of cooperation with all local institutions concerned with the cultural act aimed at creating an enlightening state and building an awareness-based accumulation. Over nine years, we have published 40 poetry collections by forty creators, and the House has reached more than 23 Egyptian governorates out of 27 in each edition of the Luxor Festival, a scene that affirms the effort to balance the coverage of all regions of Egypt. This continuous cultural act represents an innovative cultural map in the field of poetry."
Al-Qabahi also announced the creation of a new prize, "The Poem of the Season," in collaboration with the Department of Culture, to support poets and their creations, pointing out that the House aims for the tenth year of its existence to be more mature, expansive, and beautiful.
