Department of Culture Organizes the Fifth Edition of the Arabic Poetry Forums in Africa
His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has directed the Sharjah Department of Culture to organize the fifth edition of the Arabic Poetry Forums in Africa during the coming months of July and August. The forums will be hosted by nine African countries: Chad, Mali, Côte d’Ivoire, Benin, Nigeria, Guinea, Senegal, Niger, and South Sudan. The initiative continues Sharjah’s efforts to promote Arabic poetry, strengthen its standing, and support cultural and literary activity in these countries by fostering communication among creative figures and intellectuals, opening new horizons for cultural exchange between Africa and the Arab world, and nurturing emerging creative talents. It also reflects the role of Arabic poetry in serving as a bridge for dialogue and closer ties between peoples and cultures.
The nine participating African countries have completed their preparations for the launch of the fifth edition of the poetry forums initiative. The first forum will begin in the Republic of Chad in July, followed by the remaining countries, with the final forum taking place in South Sudan in August.
