Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah; the Mauritanian capital Nouakchott witnessed an official and cultural celebration that reinforces the values of loyalty to creatives and affirms their esteemed status. This was held within the 23rd edition of the Sharjah Cultural Honoring Forum, organized by the Department of Culture in Sharjah in collaboration with the Mauritanian Ministry of Culture, Arts, Communication, and Relations with Parliament, where four pioneers of Mauritanian literature were honored in recognition of their contributions to enriching cultural life. They are: poet Mohammed Fall Abdel Latif, linguistics scholar Dr. Yahya Al Hashemi, language researcher Dr. Mohamdo Amin, and poet Mohamed Al-Hafedh Weld Ahmedou.
The forum comes in implementation of the directives of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah to honor literary figures who have served modern Arab culture. This marks the fourth time the forum is held in Mauritania, after previously honoring 12 Mauritanian creatives in earlier editions.
The honoring ceremony took place at the Conference Hall in Nouakchott, attended by His Excellency Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Department of Culture in Sharjah, His Excellency Hussein Weld Medou, Minister of Culture, Arts, Communication, and Relations with Parliament in Mauritania, Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Qaseer, Director of Cultural Affairs at the Department, the Wali of Western Nouakchott representing the Mayor of Tevragh Zeina, and a large audience of intellectuals, academics, Mauritanian writers, and the families of the four honorees.
“Ongoing Cooperation”
In his speech, Abdullah Al Owais pointed to the importance of continued cooperation between Sharjah and Mauritania, saying:
“We are pleased today to gather in this prominent cultural forum, which comes as an extension of the cultural cooperation between the Department of Culture in Sharjah and the Ministry of Culture, Arts, Communication, and Relations with Parliament, which has resulted in many cultural activities that support Arab culture and enhance the role of thought and creativity in our Arab societies.”
He noted that the Sharjah Cultural Honoring Forum returns once again to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania to honor a new group of Mauritanian writers and authors in appreciation and recognition of their rich literary contributions. He pointed out that the forum, which remains keen on maintaining connections with writers from across the Arab world, constantly affirms its mission of enhancing the stature of Arab culture, energizing the literary scene, and encouraging the writers of every noble and constructive word.
Al Owais added: “The continuation of this cultural cooperation underscores the depth of fraternal relations between the United Arab Emirates and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, strengthened by the wise leadership of both nations.”
The Chairman of the Department of Culture took the opportunity to extend his highest gratitude and appreciation to the Ministry of Culture, Arts, Communication, and Relations with Parliament for its ongoing cooperation in carrying out joint cultural activities. He also conveyed the congratulations of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, to the honorees of this edition, and relayed His Highness’s greetings and wishes of success to all.
