Sharjah –
The General Secretariat of the Sharjah Award for Arabic Poetry Criticism has selected “Transformations of Poetic Language in the Arabic Poem” as the theme for the award’s sixth edition. The award is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and is organized by the Cultural Affairs Department at the Department of Culture in Sharjah.
This was announced during a meeting held by the General Secretariat at the Department of Culture to select the theme of the new edition and to open submissions for writers, critics, and those interested in Arabic poetry criticism, in accordance with the award’s terms and conditions.
Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Qaseer, Director of the Cultural Affairs directorate at the Sharjah Department of Culture and Secretary-General of the Sharjah Award for Arabic Poetry Criticism, stated that the cultural vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi has contributed to consolidating the presence of Arabic poetry criticism and enhancing its status within the Arab cultural landscape.
He added that the award is moving forward with a renewed edition that addresses a significant critical topic, continuing its role in establishing a cultural scene that places the Arabic poem at the center of critical attention, in order to observe the transformations affecting its language and aesthetic structure. He also noted that, through its successive editions, the award has built a specialized critical library, given the rich body of knowledge generated by the submissions, which continue to grow with each new cycle.
Al Qaseer further explained that the new edition’s theme opens broad and rich critical horizons, filled with meanings and references, and stems from a deep research approach connected to transformations in poetic language within the Arabic poem, allowing critics wider space to explore emerging critical issues.
The Secretary-General also pointed out that the Secretariat will work to expand awareness of the award, starting from universities and academic circles to specialists in criticism across various Arab countries, in addition to organizing introductory seminars through poetry houses across the Arab world, ensuring wide Arab participation.
