Fifth Chad Forum for Arabic Poetry Opens
N’Djamena –
Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the Arab Poetry Forums in Africa launched their new edition, as the Republic of Chad hosted the fifth edition of the Arab Poetry Forum in the capital, N’Djamena.
Organised by the Department of Cultural Affairs at the Sharjah Department of Culture, in cooperation with the Literary Club in Chad, the two-day forum brought together 50 male and female poets from across the country.
The Arab Poetry Forums in Africa are held in implementation of the directives of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah to support the Arabic language and strengthen the presence of Arabic poetry across Africa. The initiative recognises both as catalysts for awareness, bridges for communication, and platforms for showcasing poetic talent throughout the continent, as part of a comprehensive vision aimed at advancing Arab culture and reinforcing its role in human development.
The opening ceremony was attended by Dr Saleh Barma, Minister Delegate at the Ministry of Economy, Planning and International Cooperation; Abdallah Suleiman, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Handicrafts, representing the Minister of Culture; Mohammed Al Muhairi, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates to the Republic of Chad; Dr Hussein Massar Hussein, former minister and adviser to the President of the Republic; Hassan Mohammed Abkar, Head of the Youth Corner Programme; members of the scientific committee; as well as a number of directors, university professors, heads of institutions and civil society associations, and a large gathering of Arabic language and literature enthusiasts.
