Announcement of Winners for the 15th Sharjah Award for Art Criticism Research
Al-Qaseer: A New Edition Reflects the Importance of the Ruler of Sharjah’s Patronage of the Prize

The General Secretariat of the Sharjah Award for Art Criticism Research has announced the winners of its 15th edition, themed "The Arab World in Artistic Orientalism: Aesthetic and Civilizational Dimensions." The award is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and is organized by the Department of Cultural Affairs at the Sharjah Department of Culture.
The announcement came during a meeting of the General Secretariat with the prize’s judging panel at the Department of Culture in Sharjah, during which the committee’s report was reviewed.
Critic Abdullah Al-Sheikh from Morocco won first place for his research, "The Arab World in Artistic Orientalism: Aesthetic and Civilizational Dimensions." The second-place award went to critic Atef Saad from Egypt for his research, "Aesthetic and Artistic Visions of Equestrian Scenes in Egypt During the 13th Century AH / 19th Century CE."
Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Qaseer, Director of the Department of Cultural Affairs and Secretary-General of the prize, stated:
"The Sharjah Award for Art Criticism Research embarks on a new edition, reaffirming the significance of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah’s patronage of this intellectual field, which sheds light on Arab visual arts from all critical perspectives. Based on His Highness's vision, the prize has established itself as the first specialized critical platform of its kind in the Arab world for fine arts."
Al-Qaseer added:
"With today’s announcement of the winners, the Arab critical library has gained over 50 critics, following extensive participation. This year’s edition attracted submissions from the UAE, Egypt, Iraq, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, and other countries, underscoring the unique nature of this artistic and creative prize on an Arab scale."
The Secretary-General also commended the diligent efforts of the current edition’s judging panel, which included Dr. Abdel Nabi Astif (Syria), Dr. Salam Jabbar (Iraq), and Dr. Sharbel Dagher (Lebanon). He explained that the committee developed a judging strategy to select the winning research, focusing on how well participants adhered to the 15th edition’s theme and the intellectual and methodological requirements set by the award. They also evaluated the alignment of research introductions with conclusions, the accuracy and clarity of the language, and adherence to grammatical and orthographic standards.
Al-Qaseer announced that the winners of the Sharjah Prize for Art Criticism Research will be honored in December.
